As work continues on the Portable Studio, here is an update. First, a bit of history. The first studio softboxes used avaliable materials, which included wood and glass. The weight of these was so much, that they had to be manoeuvred by block and tackle. The breakthrough occurred in 1979, when an American firm, Chimera, started using fabric. This was fine, photography gear made by a firm involved in photography. However, the principle was copied and recopied, ending up with Chinese firms making cheap copies with inferior materials, selling at rock bottom prices. Back in 2015, I had very little knowledge of studio lighting, and brought some of these items. The next installment will detail what was wrong, and then what is being done to make these lighting softboxes useable
